Product Description
Installing Tub and Shower Wall Panels Surround
Removing Plumbing Fixtures
To begin the process, our first step is to remove the plumbing fixtures attached to the spout. It is crucial to utilize a strap wrench to avoid any damage to the finish. The shower valve can be detached by loosening the set screw located underneath the handle. Once that is done, proceed to remove the screws securing the adjusting ring, allowing it to be pulled free.
Installation Essentials: Tools & Materials
Razor knife, Scissors, Tape measure, J-roller, Hole saw, Trowel, Level, Tub and Shower Walls, Silicone Sealant, Soap, Water, & Damp Cloth for Panel Clean-Up, Mineral Spirits to Remove Excess Adhesive or silicone Sealant, Painter’s tape.
Trimming and Acclimating Panels
To ensure panels are trimmed to the correct size, first, bring the kit’s three panels (back, end, and trim) into the installation room 24 hours in advance for temperature and humidity acclimation. Then, measure and mark the accurate dimensions before cutting along a parallel line to the opposite edge. You can use scissors, a sharp utility knife, or snips for easier cutting with added leverage.
Measuring the Side Wall for Fixture Placement
Accurately measure and note fitting locations on the wall, including distance from back wall and tub edge to fixture centers. Transfer these measurements to the side panel, marking fixture positions. Remember the side panels’ folding flap for a watertight joint at corners and back wall. Utilize the molded crease on the panel to transfer measurements from back corner to fixture centers, ensuring precise marking for faucet, shower valve, and shower arm from the crease.
Panel Drilling and Fit Verification
Place panel on protective surface, drill holes, and use a hole saw for fixtures. Bend panel along crease, extending flap for waterproofing in corner and back wall. Test fit with folded corner and fixture holes for proper alignment. Tape the left panel temporarily and work on the opposite end section and back wall. Fold the right panel without drilling and test the fit with masking tape. Align edges against the back wall, draw a guide line, and apply adhesive for a clean installation.
Attach Panels with FRP Adhesive
Remove the masking tape and take down the panels for easier clean-up. Apply masking tape strips along the pencil outline and top edges of the bathtub. After ensuring a perfect test fit, proceed with the installation of shower wall panels using FRP Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic panel adhesive. Prior to application, use a clean, dry cloth and putty knife to wipe down the surface and remove any dust or particles.
Panel Kit Assembly & Trim Cutting
Securely press panel into adhesive, using hand. Use j-roller to eliminate air bubbles, alternating from center to edges. Repeat process with heavy rag, starting from center and moving outward. Install left panel, then right panel using FRP adhesive and instant grab material, pressing out air bubbles. Attach J-trim over panel edge for a polished appearance. Cut trim to size using utility knife or scissors. Apply clear silicone adhesive inside channel, secure trim, and press against wall for a watertight seal. Ensure trim is applied before panel adhesive sets.
Panel Cleaning and Fixture Replacement
Secure back panel with adhesive, removing air bubbles. Apply silicone bead on overlapping flap for watertight seal. Tape edges until adhesive sets, then apply white silicone sealant and tool bead for a professional finish. Reinstall plumbing fixtures, applying silicone bead for sealing. This DIY-friendly shower surround offers tile-like aesthetics at an affordable cost, without the need for grout or extensive maintenance.
